Scott Galloway is about as smart as it gets. Or at least he’s got great recall in making a presentation. An amazing amount of information provided in a short period of time. To his credit he prefaces it with “I get it wrong all the time”. He is predicting that pure play e-commerce companies, like Amazon, will go out of business, unless they open up stores/warehouses as part of their business model to assist in distribution, claiming that the ‘new black’ in retail is a return to 'bricks and clicks’, like newcos Warby Parker and Rent A Runway.
I don’t agree. You can pull off this hip specialty store like Trunk Club in say a downtown Chicago or NYC, but that’s about it.
And while Jeff Bezos has really created havoc to his business model (and subsequently everyone else’s in this space) with his free shipping market share grab, he ain’t hitting the wall any time soon. There’s way too much more stuff to sell on his one little website. He’ll figure it out, drones or no drones.
This video is fascinating. It’s fast, all hands on deck when you’re watching it.
